Oral Surgery 2 - Palate and Periodontal Surgery Level 1 - 4 days

This course covers periodontal and palate surgery techniques. Participants will learn about periodontal disease management, including surgeries and flap designs, as well as palate repair techniques and prosthetic device fabrication.

Content

Periodontal Surgery – Level 1
• Instruments, materials and bone replacement products
• Gingival surgery (gingivectomy and gingivoplasty)
• Closed debridement (gingival curettage, root planing)
• Mucogingival surgery (frenotomy, frenectomy)
• Periodontal flap designs, incisions, sutures, and knots
• Open debridement (following periodontal flap creation)
• Hemisection with (partial) retention of crown-root segments

Palate Surgery – Level 1
• Surgical anatomy of the hard and soft palate
• Palate defects present at birth/acquired after birth
• Overview of flap techniques in palate surgery
• Techniques for repair of oronasal fistulae
• Fabrication of removable palatal prostheses (obturators)
