This foundational course focuses on diagnosing and treating common oral tumors in dogs and cats, as well as handling traumatic injuries. Topics include tumor resection, lymph node removal, and soft tissue reconstruction, alongside emergency interventions for jaw fractures and soft tissue trauma.

Content

Oral and maxillofacial Oncology – Level 1
• Most common oral and maxillofacial (OMF) tumors in dogs and cats
• Work-up of OMF patients (including removal of regional lymph nodes)
• Resection of oral soft tissues (tongue, lip/cheek, palatine tonsil)
• Rostral and dorsal/marginal mandibulectomy
• Local flap techniques for closure of resection wounds

Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma – Level 1
• Surgical and first-aid endodontic treatment of luxated/avulsed teeth
• Repairing degloving injuries (avulsions) of the lips/cheeks
• Treating orofacial soft tissue injuries and foreign body penetrations
• Non-invasive jaw fracture repair options (maxillomandibular
approximation/fixation)
• Wire cerclage and alternative techniques for mandibular symphysis
separation/parasymphyseal fracture
